About the Book
The Social System through the Lens of Human Constants is the second volume in the five-volume Human Constants Theory Article Series. It moves from theoretical foundations to an examination of the structure and functioning of the social system.
The volume studies society as a set of human relationships, institutions, rules, and mechanisms. It asks how social systems form, endure, change, or become disrupted in response to enduring human needs.
The four human constants of survival, connection, meaning, and order provide the analytical framework for this inquiry. From this perspective, social phenomena can be studied through the ways these enduring needs are met, regulated, and balanced.
Purpose and Place in the Series
The discussions also consider the relationship between balance and imbalance, social regulation, adaptation, flexibility, and the stability of human systems.
This book is a step toward turning Human Constants Theory from a conceptual framework into a tool for studying the social system. It prepares the ground for the third volume's examination of the dynamics and transformation of societies.
